Special number plates

Some vehicles have special number plates because they are used for special purposes. On this page, you can read how to apply for diplomatic number plates.

Diplomatic number plates

Embassies and international organisations can apply for diplomatic vehicles to be exempt from vehicle registration tax and periodic taxes.

Diplomatic vehicles are vehicles used by embassies, diplomats, embassy staff and the employees of international organisations.

Diplomatic vehicles can be registered as private cars, vans or motorcycles.

Diplomatic vehicles can get special blue diplomatic number plates or regular white number plates. Motorcycles can only get white number plates.

Apply for tax exemption for a diplomatic vehicle

How to apply for tax exemption for a diplomatic vehicle:

  1. Fill in the form 21.132
  2. Attach documentation (documentation will depend on the applicant)
  3. Register the vehicle with a number plate operator
Blue diplomatic number plates – If you have chosen blue number plates in the form, payment must be made when ordering the plates. In your application, you must enter the name of the number plate operator that will register the vehicle because the plates will be sent to that operator. Once the number plate operator has received the set of number plates, you can contact them to have the vehicle registered.
White number plates – If you have selected white number plates in the form, you can contact a number plate operator and have the vehicle registered as soon as it has been registered as a diplomatic vehicle by the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency (Motorstyrelsen).

The Motor Vehicle Agency will process your request within five working days, excluding delivery.
