Trailers
You do not have to pay registration tax, and if your trailer weighs 500kg or less, you do not have to pay vehicle weight tax either.
If the total weight of the trailer exceeds 500kg, you will be charged vehicle weight tax. If your trailer has a number plate, you can see the specific weight tax in the Danish Register of Motor Vehicles. If the trailer has no number plate, but you know the total weight of the trailer, you can see the tax rates in Danish in our legal guide.
Most often you can buy a trailer fitted with a number plate. Trailer dealers may also be number plate providers. If not, you can buy your number plates from a number plate provider (in Danish only but enter your town or postal code to find the one nearest to you) or in one of our vehicle registration offices.
Trailers only need one number plate, and the price of such a number plate is DKK 590.
We charge a processing fee of DKK 200 if you buy the number plate in one of SKAT’s motor registry offices. The fee charged by number plate providers vary.
You can deregister your trailer with a number plate provider (in Danish only but enter your town or postal code to find the one nearest to you) or in one of our vehicle registration offices where you hand in your number plate.
This also applies if you have scrapped the trailer. You cannot deregister the trailer in the register of motor vehicles. We charge a fee of DKK 60 to deregister the trailer in one of our vehicle registration offices. Number plate providers are free to decide if they want to charge a fee for deregistering a trailer.
You can re-register your trailer in three ways:
- in the Danish Register of Motor Vehicles: DKK 340
- with a number plate provider: DKK 380 + fee
- in one of our vehicle registration offices: DKK 380 + DKK 100 for personal assistance
Please bring the following:
- Registration certificate
- Photo ID
- Power of attorney if you represent somebody else
If the trailer weighs less than 3,500 kg, in some cases it will need to undergo an inspection in the event of re-registration. For further reading on inspection of vehicles go to The Danish Road Traffic Authority.
