Calculate registration tax
You can make an approximate calculation of the expected vehicle registration tax on the vehicle you consider importing or exporting.
Please state the taxable value if you want to calculate the registration tax on a new vehicle.
The taxable value is the market price of the vehicle minus the vehicle registration tax. It is as a minimum the sum of the following:
- The vehicle purchase price outside Denmark converted into Danish kroner.
- The price of possible options fitted at the factory or by the importer.
- A margin of at least 9%.
- 25% VAT.

A vehicle is considered new until it is 4 years old, has run 2,000 km or has been exposed to wear and tear or damages to such an extent that it cannot be sold as a new vehicle.

If you calculate the registration tax on a used vehicle you need the initial price of the vehicle and the market price. The market price is the expected price you will pay at a car dealer.

You can find the initial price of a vehicle at price lists of car dealers or on car sites on the internet.
How to find the market price
You can search for the market price on various websites selling cars.
You can search for the market price of motor bikes on websites selling motor bikes.
You can also look up prices from the magazines Bil-revyen and MC-revyen here (www.statsbiblioteket.dk)
